Hot Dogs Hold Mystery Meat, Human DNA
Clear foods, a Bay Area-based food analytics lab, found that 14.4 percent of 75 retail brand hot dogs at ten different food retailers contained ingredients that weren't listed on the label.
The company's website showed that 375 hot dogs and sausages held another ingredient that was not otherwise specified on the packaging.
Breaking it down a bit more, researchers found that roughly 15 percent of all tested samples contained meats not listed on the label, while 10 percent of vegetarian samples also tested positive for chicken or pork. Lastly, 2 percent percent contained "Human DNA."
Fortunately, there are some brands that stayed true to their packaging--including the soy chorizo and meatleass corn dogs at Trader Joe's for vegetarians, according to Yahoo Health. Others, including Whole Foods' 365 brand, Taveritte's, Aidell's, Ball Park, Hebrew National, Oscar Mayer and Johnsonville also tested true for the meat eaters out there.
