Santa may be getting an upgrade when it comes to who or what pulls his sleigh. Just two days before Christmas, scientists at Boston Dynamics released a video of quadruped robots filling in for Santa's reindeer.

The YouTube video features three of Boston Dynamics' Spot bots, which are four-legged canine robots. In this case, though, the robots were dressed up as reindeer with antlers and also pulled a sled with what appears to be bicycle wheels.

Boston Dynamics prides itself on creating advanced robot, including a canine-like robot that can handle many different types of difficult terrain. An onboard computer controls locomotion, processes sensors and handles communications with the user.

In addition to building their own projects, Boston Dynamics has worked extensively with DARPA when it comes to creating mobile units. In this case, though, they've bent their technology to something a bit more fun for the holidays.

Will Santa employ robotic reindeer to replace his animals? That remains to be seen. For now, though, you can check out the robots and the sled in the video below, courtesy of YouTube.
