Video: HP Spectre 13, World's Thinnest Laptop?
The Spectre 13, HP's newest ultrabook, is set to make another world record. The device is expected to catch the attention of a lot of people as it is the thinnest laptop ever manufactured by HP and possibly by any major manufacturer in the world.
The HP Spectre 13 is only 10.4mm thick, making it thinner than both Dell's XPS 13, which is 15.2 mm thick and the MacBook of Apple Inc. that is 13.2mm thick. With HP Spectre 13, the company has made an attempt to create a modern version of the MacBook Air. Packed with only a 1080p and has neither touchscreen nor a twisting or detachable body, the device from HP is only trying to be a solid, stylish laptop.
The newest ultrabook from HP comes with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage capacity, 1080p resolution and 13.3-inch display. It will be available with a Core i7 or Core i5 configurations.
Mike Nash, HP's Vice-President for consumer PCs, said in a statement that the company knows that Core M is required for a device like this, and that everyone has seen it on Apple. However, their customers prefer Core i, and with their new Spectre 13, they were able to provide for this kind of demand.
Having a laptop like the Spectre 13 to work with the Core i processor would mean addressing the battery and heat issues common to most ultrabooks. According to Wired, HP has already dealt with the processor issues by using some heat pipe to distribute the heat away from the processor, including a couple of machine fans that will push the heat out from the back.
As for its battery, HP created a thin unit which takes up the majority of the internal make. It is also expected to bring 9.5 hours of battery that is reportedly short compared to the 12 hour battery life of the MacBook Air. HP Spectre 13 preorder will start on April 25 for a price range starting $1,169.99, Engadget reported.
