Amazon is working on a Kindle e-reader case that can be powered by solar energy. There is no official statement on the release of the solar-powered case but is said to be launched in the immediate future. Meanwhile, Amazon will soon release a new model of Kindle with a rechargeable case for extended battery life probably next week.

Good Readers report that the code-name given by the engineers at Lab 126, Amazon's Silicon Valley hardware development unit for the solar-powered case, is "Sunkiss." On the other hand, they call the new Kindle and the case "Whiskey' and "Soda." The unit is in charge for the other Amazon devices such as the Fire tablets, Echo Virtual assistant and the Fire TV set-top box.

According to CNet, the new Kindle e-reader is thinner than the earlier models. This latest device would solidify Amazon's domination in the e-reader business. Jeff Bezos, the Amazon's CEO stated that the device will have competitive pricing to make it affordable to users.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reports that Amazon offers discounts exclusively for the members of Amazon's Prime program. The members can purchase any Kindle device and will be getting a price cut for about 38 percent.

The Amazon Kindle has chains of e-readers with Kindle devices wherein users can buy, browse, copy and read newspapers, e-books, magazines and other digital media. These are marketed by Amazon.com and available at Kindle store.

Kindle is released in 2007 with a price tag of $400. The Amazon subsidiary, Lab 126, developed the hardware platform. It began as a single device and now has various devices such as the Android-based tablets with color LCD screen and the e-readers with E Ink electronic papers. The Kindle store has more than 4.3 million e-books that are available in the U.S., as of Feb.2016.
