Construction workers discovered a 26-foot-long python emerging from a building site in Penang Island in Malaysia. The snake was discovered April 7 laying eggs under a fallen tree.

The reptile was found to be a reticulated python, the longest reptile species abundant in Southeast Asia. The snake was seen in a site where a flyover is soon to rise. Herme Herisyam, the operations chief of the southwest district of Penang's Civil Defence Department, reported that they were notified by the construction workers. The officials took about 30 minutes to capture the snake.

After the capture, photos were taken but the snake suddenly fell still after laying one egg. On April 10, the snake died when the Department of Wildlife was about to transfer it to a safe place, reported USA Today. The reason of its death remains unclear but it may have died due to the stress of its captivity.

Reticulated pythons, known as Relics, were known to be ill-tempered and aggressive. Today, relics have grown a reputation to be highly intelligent. Domesticated Relics can be seen in several areas in Southeast Asia. Relics have a muscular build and attractive patterned skin, which contribute to their popularity. Its lifespan is anywhere from 15 to 20 years but there are some Relics who have lived up to 25 or 30 years old.

Relics are also known for their extreme sizes, spanning a lot of meters. Some who grow up to only 10 to 12 feet are called Dwarfs. There are also Super dwarf who only grow up to 6 or 7 feet long. A 25-foot long python called Medusa found in 2011 currently holds the record. It can now be found in The Edge of Hell Haunted House located in Kansas City, Missouri. Before Medusa, there was 24-foot long Fluffy which previously held the record for the longest snake in captivity, reported The Guardian.

If the Guinness World Records would consider the python found in Penang Island, it would now get the title from Medusa for being the longest snake.
