Is Snapchat Going to Beat Facebook?
Long ago, there was MySpace. Then Multiply and Friendster. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are the latest fad and it seems that they are being beaten by a newbie in the social media game: Snapchat.
In a report by Fortune, it seems that Snapchat users are catching up on the game, and are uploading more and more new videos on their app every day, says the company. How many, would you ask?
Not much, just around 10 billion. Yes, that's ten whole billion new posts every single day. That's pretty impressive considering the premise of the app -- its goal was to share disappearing selfies with friends, and that's it.
Just last year, Snapchat had less than that amount of video traffic. However, the company started taking in videos by millions in April last year, as reported by the Financial Times. Back then, it was just 4 billion videos a day. By November, the numbers jumped to 6 billion, and in February, it was 8 billion.
Sure, Facebook has been doing what it can with livestreams, which debuted last year. However, Snapchat has more to offer with its "stories," where "snappers" can string a series of videoclips together. Like everything else on the site, however, the posts will disappear 24 hours after they are first posted.
Snapchat also reaches out to others by debuting a political show about this year's presidentia race. For the more current-events type of person, the "discover" feature also has outlets like CNN, Nat Geo, and Buzzfeed post their own short clips on the app.
While Snapchat does not have as many active users as Facebook, it is fast becoming the social media of choice for app users. Teens, for instace, say that Snapchat beats out every other social media network, mking it more popular than Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
