Nintendo 64, according to reports, is left behind if based on graphics compared to modern consoles. However, the console paved way to beloved games such as "Super Mario 64." Turning 20 years old this year, the Nintendo 64 was the last console which used game cartridges.

Competitor consoles, since then, has released games through various types of optical discs. The PS 1 used CD, followed by the PS 2 which used DVDs and now Xbox One and the PS4 uses Blu-ray discs. The time came when the Nintendo Wii U also used a type of optical discs for its games.

However, this is where the problem for gaming consoles begin. The consoles function too fast for the disc to actually read. To solve this problem Sony and Microsoft resided with installing the game's data to the hard drive to work, which was reportedly a step back to what was a plug-and-play feature of consoles back then. This is a huge downfall as to waiting to install before playing the game, Tech Insider reported.

Even though Nintendo had discs for its Wii U games, it did not require any installation. The downside is that it is not as powerful as the Xbox one of PlayStation 4.

Nonetheless, Nintendo will be releasing its latest console which is said to be more powerful than the Xbox one and PS4. Codename NX, the console will solve the gaming problem by reviving game cartridges.

Partner Company Macronix is said to be working with Nintendo in creating its new console. Macronix is said to be testing ROM chips which caters to disc-less consoles.

Nintendo have recently confirmed a global launch on March 2017. More details will then be released after the E3 2016, Wired UK reported.
