Google Nexus 2016 Release Date, Specs & Prices: Next-Gen Phone To Add More Features On Top Of Android, Says CEO
While, Google is keeping mum on the release date for its upcoming Nexus 2016 device, fans can expect the next-gen Nexus device to come loaded with a host of exciting features and an attractive design.
In a recent interview with tech journalist Walt Mossberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai assured fans of a significantly enhanced next Nexus experience, according to 9to5Google.
Talking about the future of the Nexus line of smartphones, Pichai mentioned that the company would put "more thought" into them.
"You'll see us hopefully add more features on top of Android on Nexus phones," he said. "There's a lot of software innovation to be had."
Pichai added that Google would be "more opinionated" about the design of the phones, reported The Verge.
When asked whether Google plans to build its own phones from scratch, the CEO said, "No. Our plan is still to work with OEMs to make phones."
It is rumored that Google Nexus 2016 release will happen in Q4 this year. The search engine giant has always released its Nexus devices in the month of October and it is likely that the company will repeat the Nexus release pattern this year as well, according to Bitbag.
As reported by popular leakster, Evan Blass, HTC is developing two new Android N devices for Google, and the devices are internally named as S1 and M1.
"HTC is building a pair of Android N devices for Google internally dubbed M1 and S1 #nexus," Bass tweeted, reported Android Police. The rumored Nexus 2016 devices have been dubbed as HTC Sailfish and Marlin.
However, there are also reports which claim that HTC may no longer build the next Google Nexus model this year. According to Christian Times, Huawei will replace HTC as the Nexus flagship's manufacturer.
As far as the specifications are concerned, the Nexus 2016 is expected to run Google's latest OS iteration- Android N. Rumors suggest the Nexus handset will feature 3D Touch-like functionality. It is also rumored that one of the Nexus smartphones will be coming with a 5-inch display whereas the high-end version would be packed with a 5.5-inch display.
It is expected that the upcoming version of Nexus will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 paired with up to 4GB of RAM.
