Snapchat has now surpassed Twitter in terms of daily active users. Should Twitter worry about this?

The social media app has recorded about 150 million users each day, making it more popular than Twitter. Twitter has 310 million active users per month based on its recent report. The company did not give an exact number on the number of daily users.

Twitter started in 2006, and now has less than 140 million active users per day, according to a survey conducted by an analyst in Bloomberg. It was once the biggest social network. But it was challenged with the rise of other social media websites like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram.

Business Insider explained this in detail. Snapchat users mainly use the app to communicate with their personal contacts. About 70% of users send photos and videos only to their peers, as claimed by a survey.

On the other hand, Twitter, is for brand who wise to get known on the web. In a survey conducted by SocialFresh, the results revealed that only 4% of the participating brands chose Snapchat as a platform for advertisement. Sixty four percent of the brands believe that Twitter is effective in boosting their profits.

As Snapchat continues to expand, it is also looking into the possibility of pleasing brands to advertise.

BI Intelligence, the research arm of the Business Insider, has also released a report on the potential of mobile advertising that social media platforms should look into.

The report revealed that brands would be more willing to spend on video ads instead of the usual search and display.  Mobile and ad revenue in the United States, meanwhile, is projected to rise by 26.5 percent until year 2020. Users would also be mainly mobile phones instead of desktop in looking for brands or services, so companies would be spending more on mobile search ad spend.

The Business Insider said Twitter still has an edge despite the surge of Snapchat active users.
