Elon Musk, Teslas Motors' CEO will be sending a mission to Mars beginning 2018. Based on the reports, the company, along with SpaceX, will launch the Flying Dragon version 2 rocket, with no humans on it, every 26 months.  Musk confirms plan to send the rocket first before ultimately bring the astronauts to the International Space Station.

Musk made the announcement during the Code Reference held in Rancho Palos Verdes, California on Wednesday night. However, that is not the company's biggest intention. If things become successful, Musk said that the first rocket that will carry human cargo is going to be launched in 2024. With an interior capacity of an SUV and has the capability of loading up to seven people, the Flying Dragon 2 is expected to take 18 months before it can get to Mars, Universe Today reported.

According to Musk, he would not suggest going to the red planet in such capacity as it would be a long time to consume it on an SUV. He also added that it has no capability to return to earth as indicated in their fine print. Musk noted that Mars is not a bad option if one is about to select a place to die.

While he did not provide a lot of information about his plan of Mars colonization, the Tesla Motors CEO is considering to show his architecture for the Mars colonization during the International Astronautical Congress held in September. When asked regarding the scientific accuracy of the film "The Martian" which starred Matt Damon, Musk gave the film a rating of eight out of ten.

For Elon Musk, an unguided rocket can never be taken off from Mars while pricking one's finger and direct to a spaceship. While he notes that this may be possible, it may also be very unlikely. Based on reports, Musk himself has never been into space, but intends to return into orbit in four or five years, according to Space Flight Insider.
