Hackers Did Not Spare Facebook Founder’s Social Media Accounts

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was not spared from the rampant hacking of social media accounts. Just this weekend, his Pinterest and Twitter accounts were hacked and the OurMine Team group claimed responsibility of the hacking.

BBC News reported that the group has at least 40,000 followers on Twitter, and it even invited Zuckerberg to get in touch with them.

In one of their tweets, the group said: "Hey @finkd we got access to your Twitter & Instagram & Pinterest, we are just testing your security, please dm us."

The hacking incident raised suspicions that the same group may be behind the 2012 LinkedIn breach. Recently, LinkedIn was on headlines again as reports surfaced that 117 million users were affected and their passwords were being sold on the dark web.

PC Mag reported that there was a tweet from the Facebook CEO's Twitter account that obviously did not come from him was it has not been updated for around four years. The hackers claimed that Zuckerberg's account details were among the 117 million passwords obtained in the 2012 LinkedIn breach.

It can be recalled that LinkedIn already confirmed last month that the hacking indeed took place and millions of users were affected.  The social media company has immediately sent notifications to its users to change their details as a protection to the hackers.

Twitter supports a two-factor account authentication, a feature that is still missing in Pinterest accounts. It is another layer of protection that online users can consider.

VentureBeat reported that Twitter already suspended Zuckerberg's account, and was later on restored without the tweet from the supposed hackers.

The Guardian, meanwhile, warned that there could be more hacking cases after the breach. The reported also noted that the Facebook CEO appeared to have the same security weaknesses like the other online users.
