Mysterious 'Fireball' Seen Behind The ISS, Hunters Claim It Was A UFO
Footage during NASA's broadcast of the International Space Station (ISS) live feed on May 31 showed an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) passing like a "streak of light" behind the space station in low Earth orbit.
According to a report by Mail Online, the video's narrator, SecureTeam10 received the footage via email from someone who was examining hours of recording of the ISS's live streams. It showed a ball of light coming from behind the space station, flaring up several times before suddenly disappearing.
Tyler Glockner, who operates the YouTube channel, said 'This amazing footage of the ISS...has got me very excited. He can also be heard from the background speculating about the source of light and how it suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Tech Times reported that Glockner also said that the fireball can be noticed because of the ISS' relative position to the Earth.
Although the mysterious object resembled a fireball, Glockner explained that it may not be a fireball since meteors do not burn in airless space. "There is this bright object that can't be a fireball, because there's no air in space, hence there can't be fire," he said. "My mind is just blown. What is this thing?"
"It comes out of nowhere, flies up behind the ISS and we can actually see just before it disappears some red lights shining on the ISS," he added.
The Inquistr also reported that some people who saw the footage thought the object was probably a meteor or a piece of space junk, such as a spent rocket stage re-entering the Earth's atmosphere. One viewer even said, "This was a meteorite hitting the Earth's atmosphere and either burning up or bouncing off back in to space." This viewer also said that the footage was a good film of a fire ball coming in to the Earth's Atmosphere from space.
However, some experts have offered possible explanation to what was seen on the footage. One is that it could be a cube satellite that had been released from the ISS before the mysterious fireball was seen. Experts explained that at times, these satellites come with solar panels to assist in power up and the ball of light could be from the said panels.
Seeing these kinds of mysterious objects in space is not really uncommon, and in fact, NASA has previously clarified that many of the UFOs spotted in the live feeds are easily explainable.
In an email to Tech Times, NASA spokesperson Daniel G. Huot wrote:
"Reflections on the station's windows, lights from the spacecraft structure itself or lights from Earth commonly appear as artifacts in photos and videos from the orbiting laboratory, just as reflections often appear in pictures taken through windows here on Earth."
