Moto 360 First Gen Not Compatible With Android Wear 2.0
The original Moto 360 smartwatch has been around for quite some time now and some are wondering if the smart wearable would be compatible with the recently announced Android Wear 2.0.
Unfortunately for Moto 360 smarwatch owners, the first generation piece will be among the smartwatches that will be left out due to the lack of compatibility. This was confirmed no less by Motorola via Twitter, a development that doesn’t come a bit of a surprise.
Considering that the Moto 360 has been around for quite some time now, the fact that Android Wear 2.0 was already mentioned as something that would not support the platform of earlier devices makes the revelation understandable.
The case is no different from the Android updates done on older smartphones, most of which are stuck at a certain level to which they could be upgraded mainly due to performance issues tied up with its features and specs.
If it is any consolation, the Moto 360 is not the only smartwatch that has to deal with this development. It has already been made known before that other older smartwatch models will not be supported.
The LG G Watch is another wearable that cannot make use of Android Wear 2.0 with other ones such as the Asus ZenWatch and Samsung Gear Live devices likely to suffer the same fate as mentioned via ARS Technica.
To some, the development could be a disappointment but owners simply have to ponder on the thought of having an unreliable smartwatch which is likely to sputter if Android Wear 2.0 were to be applied.
With that said, the only thing that Moto 360 owners can look forward to right now are critical security patches will be released on an as needed basis though it is unlikely to be something that owners will likely go nuts over.
The Android Wear 2.0 was announced at the Google I/O 2016 that took place last month. Among the features that it has to offer include improved smart reply options, third-party watch faces and complications and also an on-screen keyboard per Slashgear.
Android Wear 2.0 is scheduled for release in the Fall but is currently available for developers to get a sneak peak.
