Samsung Releasing Another Clamshell Phone Codenamed ‘Veyron’
Samsung had its share of clamshell phones to offer in the market though some are not widely available. One of the regions is China where these clamshell phones and Samsung is on the verge of releasing a new one codenamed ‘Veyron’.
The rumoured new clamshell will succeed Samsung’s previous clamshell phone, the SM-W2016. Aside from the external aesthetics, the SM-W2016 did come with high-end specs that included the following via Sam Mobile:
- 3.9-inch Super AMOLED display (1280x780 pixels)
- Exynos 7420 processor
- 3 GB or RAM
- 64 GB internal storage
- 16 MP main camera
- 5 MP front-facing camera
- 2,000 mAh battery
This time around, Samsung is reportedly upping the stakes with ‘Veyron’ (SM-W2017) per a more recent report by Sam Mobile.
For now, there is no official word on what Samsung’s clamshell successor will have to offer though it could offer a dual 3.9-inch HD Super AMOLED display, an Exynos 8890 processor, a 12 MP primary camera and the same 5 MP front camera.
The outer design could adapt the same glass and metal combo that the Samsung Galaxy S7 currently carries and somewhat similar to what the W2016 had to offer.
Right now, Samsung has yet to touch on the matter though the name of the project could be an indication that this is one smartphone carrying some special features both inside and out.
With Samsung clamshell phones seemingly a big hit over in China, the company could be upping the stakes a bit in terms of design and possibly pricier.
Updates tied up to the Samsung clamshell (SM-W2017) should pick up in the following months though another question is whether the said device will make the international scene.
Right now, Samsung has focused more on offering its flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 6 or 7. International debuts of their other lines are limited and depend on the region where they would be debuting.
An example would be the Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro, another report that curiously follows this one. The two new Samsung devices sound interesting though the decision to offer them in either Europe or even North America will depend on a lot of factors – mostly driven by the consumer market of each region.
