While, fans were eagerly waiting for game developer Naughty Dog to announce the second installment in the 'The Last of Us' franchise, possibly dubbed "The Last of Us 2," at the Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 2016 event, the same did not happen. "The Last of Us 2," was indeed one of the most anticipated games for the E3.

It seems Naughty Dog did not announce anything about the 'The Last of Us' sequel probably because the developer is still busy working on the "Uncharted 4" single-player DLC. Uncharted 4 is currently one of the biggest PS4 success stories of the year.

The rumors of "The Last of Us 2" ignited after "Uncharted 4" indirectly hinted an easter egg for the game, through "The Last of Us: American Daughters" poster.

However, Neil Druckmann, the game director and writer for "The Last of Us" has already confirmed that there's a "50/50" possibility of "The Last Of Us 2" happening as the studio wants to deliver a story that is worthy of sharing and not just a redo of the first installment.

While, there's no confirmation for "The Last of Us 2" from Naughty Dog, fans are still hoping that that the sequel if made anytime will definitely be as good as the first or even better.

It is speculated that "The Last of Us 2" will star Ellie as the game's lead protagonist, as she is younger than Joel. Her combat skills are expected to be explored in the game. Fans believe that Joel might die at the beginning of the game, just like what happened to her daughter Sarah in "The Last of Us."

The action and adventure post zombie apocalypse survival video game "The Last of Us" was developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was one of the most critically acclaimed games released back in 2013.
