'Sonic Mania' 2D: Reimagined Zones From 'Sonic The Hedgehog,' 'Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles' For PS4, Xbox One, PC In Spring 2017

"Sonic Mania" 2D will be arriving to PS4, Xbox One and PC, as part of the series' 25th anniversary. The classically styled "Sonic Mania" 2D game will reimagine zones from "Sonic The Hedgehog," "Sonic The Hedgehog 2," "Sonic CD" and "Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles."

The  "Sonic Mania" 2D game trailer looks old school which is full of "Sonic Mania" 2D chiptune music. It featured the "Sonic Mania's" colorful and pixel-art style trademark. "Sonic Mania"2D will also feature three "Sonic Mania" 2D playable characters namely, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles.The  "Sonic Mania" 2D will also bring a couple of twists on old stages in addition to a new "Sonic Mania" 2D move like the drop dash and new "Sonic Mania" 2D levels.

Sega of America, in collaboration with PagodaWest, is working in the development of "Sonic Mania" 2D, along with Christian Whitehead and Simon Thomley. PagodaWest is an award-winning indie game developer well-known for the mobile game Major Magnet. Whitehead is behind the remastered versions of "Sonic 1," "Sonic 2" and "Sonic CD" for console and mobile.

Meanwhile, in a press release, Takashi Iizuka, head of Sonic team, stated that this type of collaboration is a first for Sega. He added that "Sonic Mania" 2D has been a passion project for the entire team and that they look forward to sharing more details about "Sonic Mania" 2D later in the year. Iizuka also highlighted the dedication of the team to have a playable "Sonic Mania" 2D game ready for the audience at SDCC.

"Sonic Mania" 2D, is not the only major Sonic title planned for 2017. It has been reported that an all-new game is also slated for next year on PS4, Xbox One and the NX, Forbes reported.

The Sonic team is working on a Project Sonic 2017, however, there is not much information released about it yet. Despite Sonic's expediency, "Sonic Mania" 2D will reportedly be late to the series' anniversary party with a suspected release date in Spring 2017, Engadget reported.

"Sonic Mania 2D will be digitally distributed and will be available on PlayStation 4 equipped with new "Sonic Mania" 2D zones, "Sonic Mani"a 2D acts and "Sonic Mania" 2D bosses.
