Nvidia Quadro P6000 Review: Revolutionary Pascal Architecture Wows Pixar Animation Studios

The Nvidia Quadro P6000 is the most up to date and powerful GPU unveiled as it sports the company's revolutionary Pascal architecture. The Nvidia Quadro P6000 also delivers the best performance through its 3840 CUDA parallel-processing cores.

Designers and scientists who require the finest visuals for their work will find the Nvidia Quadro P6000 a very useful device as the card is equipped to face the high demands of VR design.

The Nvidia Quadro P6000 is packed with 24GB of GDDR5X GPU memory that turns to a 12 teraflops of FP32 performance output, PC World reported. However, it is important to note that the Nvidia Quadro P6000 is a power-intensive GPU that could consume up to 250W of power.

The device will need PCI Express 3.0 as well as 16 slots on the PC mainboard to be installed in a rig. The card is not fitted for the compact rigs though, as it measures a length of 10.5 inches and 4.4 inches in height. The Nvidia Quadro P6000's GPU has a single DVI-D port, an optional stereo port and four DisplayPort 1.4 ports.

The smaller variant of Nvidia Quadro P6000, the Nvidia Quadro P5000, has 2,560 CUDA cores and 16GB of GDDR5X memory, Engadget reported. Its GPU can deliver 8.9 teraflops of FP32 performance output. Unlike the Nvidia Quadro P6000, the P5000 requires less power, which runs on 180W of power but packs the same dimensions and video outputs as its larger variant.

Meanwhile, the chief technology officer at Pixar Animation Studios, Steve May, explained how the Nvidia Quadro P6000 may help his team achieve better output. He said that the ability to visualize the scenes of huge sizes interactively could help the artists make creative decisions more quickly. He concluded by pointing out that he expects the benefits in workflow to surge as they embed Pascal architecture into Pixar's workstations.

Nvidia Quadro P6000 will be presented along with its smaller variant, the Nvidia Quadro P5000 at Siggraph 2016. Nvidia has not disclosed the price points for the two GPUs yet.
