The statement from Apple Inc said, "We've achieved equal pay in the United States for similar roles and performance. Women earn one dollar for every dollar male employees earn. And underrepresented minorities earn one dollar for every dollar white employees earn."
However, as of today, CNN Money noted that the company is still dominated by white males in the workforce, compromising a massive 56 percent of their US employee numbers. On a global scale, more men work for Apple as well, as they compromise 68% of the total number of employees worldwide.
Still, the company claims that their hiring policy has been getting better - although 32 percent of their global work force is made up of women, they do now represent 37 percent of new hires around the world, compared to the 31 percent in 2014. Apple CEO Tim Cook did mention last year that diversity is a \"readily solvable issue\" that can be fixed, despite the board\'s push-back, claiming that the increase of diversity among its board and senior management is "unduly burdensome."
It may not be at its best, but according to Time Magazine, most of the new hires are actually people of color - as many as 54 percent of the new hires being minorities - although the "underrepresented" sector does not yet include Asians, who represent about 19 percent of the Apple workforce, and 24 percent of the new hires.
Apple is the among the many tech companies - including Facebook and Microsoft, which have all been pushed to discuss equal pay for equal work for all its employees.
