Indian researchers from Graviky Labs invented a pen with an ink that was made out of recycled air pollution. They called this material Air Ink pen.

Graviky Labs stated in their website that people complain about air pollution. They further stated that what if you had a way to capture, clean and repurpose it into a means of expressions.

The pen contains 30 millimeters of ink, that is about 30-50 minutes of air pollution spawned by car exhaust. The researchers built a system that could capture the particulate matter of car exhaust fumes. This comprises of sensor-activated unit that attaches to the car exhaust. It then manages to capture soot---the 2.5 micrometer black particles, which composed mainly of carbon from the fumes that run through it. This is produced by incompletes combustion of fossil fuels. The distilled soot black particles are then used to produce the ink that applies into the Air Ink pens, according to IFL Science.

The Graviky Labs collaborated with Tiger Beer, in which it sponsored artists to create fine arts using the Air Ink pens. Tiger dubbed it as "Art of Pollution." They stated that the pollutants which could have been in the lungs of millions of people are now beautifully resting as art.

The researchers came up with this discovery at the 2013 INK Conference. Then, they spent time and resources to make their discovery possible. Currently, it is now under certification process. Once it will be certified, they will start producing the pens for commercial use.
