Choice Of Smartphones Can Determine Your Personality
Smartphones have become a "must-have" for almost everybody right now. Everywhere you turn, you see people with their smartphones glued to their hand. An interesting new research revealed that your choice of smartphones can actually say a lot about your personality.
If you are someone who prefers to use an iPhone over Android phones, then your personality could be something very specific to an iPhone user's personality. A recent research by the University of Lincoln reveals that your choice of smartphone can determine what your personality is. Lincolnshireecho.co.uk reported the results revealed that people who use Android phones are more honest while iPhone users are more outgoing.
According to Science Daily, the research is a doctoral study conducted by Heather Shaw, from University of Lincoln's School of Psychology. Shaw and her fellow researchers did two studies the differences in personality between iPhone and Android smartphone users. Lancaster University also joined in on the study.
During the first study, researchers required 240 participants to answer a questionnaire about the different characteristics associated with users of each smartphone brand. On the second study, researchers tested these different stereotypes against the real personality traits of 530 Android and iPhone smartphone users. Results of the second study showed that most of the stereotypical personalities were not seen in reality. Researchers found that there were a lot of Android users who are honest and humble.
However, they also found that women are two times more likely to own an iPhone than an Android Phone. When researchers measured 'avoidance of similarity' which describes whether people like having the same products as others to measure the characteristics, they found that Android Users were more likely to avoid having the same phone with others as compared to iPhone users. Also, they discovered that iPhone users thought it was more important to have a high status phone than those who are using Android phones.
Meanwhile,Shaw explained "This study provides new insights into personality differences between different types of smartphone users. Smartphone choice is the most basic level of smartphone personalization, and even this can tell us a lot about the user," Medical Xpress reported. She added saying, "Imagine if we further researched how personality traits relate to the applications people download. It is becoming more and more apparent that smartphones are becoming a mini digital version of the user, and many of us don't like it when other people use our phones because it can reveal so much about us."
