Mercedes-Benz, Microsoft Team Up To Integrate Office Productivity In Cars

Workaholic businessmen will definitely love this new collaboration of these software and automotive giants. Microsoft and Mercedes-Benz announced at IFA in Berlin that they are working out a project integrating Microsoft's expertise in office software to a classy Mercedes Benz sedan.

In an Engadget report, The two companies wanted to target the businessman's class by introducing "In Car Office Feature" to Mercedes' cars. The said feature will make use of Microsoft's exchange calendar. The said calendar will be synced in the office that will help you commute to different meetings and stay updated with co-workers in the office. The synced information from the office will also help the consumers in keeping their productivity even when jammed in the traffic. Microsofts office productivity apps will be included at the car unit's infotainment system.

In a keynote speech at IFA by Dr. Dieter Zetsche, head of Mercedes-Benz Motors, He emphasized the company's ultimate legacy is to make the time spent in their Mercedes' car a productive and quality time.

On the other hand, Recently, several companies already started conducting some major changes in auto manufacturing usually adding more sophistication and major features like autonomous driving, Ubergizmo reported. Microsoft claims that they are more interested in helping car manufacturers develop these features and providing an operating system for autonomous cars.

We won’t be building our own autonomous vehicle, but we would like to enable autonomous vehicles and assisted driving as well. We can certainly do the operating system of the car. You’re sitting in the car for many, many minutes a day. Can that be part of your new office, can it be your new desk, a place where you actually get work done? We believe it can. Each of them [automakers] had a little something different that they wanted, and we were able to help enable them.”

Mercedes Benz will be introducing In Car Office feature in some models in the second half of 2017.
