The $90 Amazon Fire HD 8 Tablet Could Be The Most Descent Tablet Under The $100 Price Category
Amazon Fire HD 8 is not exactly the tablet featuring all the latest specs and features. Amazon is taking a detour in selling their hardware as compared to major players in hardware manufacturing. But for a $90 price tag, its's still worth checking out.
Not exceeding the $100 price point is the main marketing strategy of Amazon Fire HD. Yet, the tablet manufacturer was able to provide a descent upgrade to their tablet that gives you a little more than what you paid for.
As stated in Amazon's Fire HD 8 official product page, the tablet gets more power, juicing up to 4,750 mAh, which promises 12 hours of basic usage. It will also have two storage options, 32 GB and 16 GB, both expandable up to 200 GB more via a micro SD slot. Yet, despite having an RAM upgrade, it will just be a 1.5 GB from previously 1 GB RAM.
The rest of the specs will resemble its predecessor with 8-inches HD display with 1280 x 800 resolution and 189ppi; Dolby audio speakers; and a standard rear and front camera. It will also feature its own voice intelligent personal assistant, similar with Google's Google Now and Microsoft's Cortana. This voice activated assistant will help you perform simple tasks hands free. However, don't raise your expectations since software making is not exactly Amazon's forte.
According to Techcrunch, Amazon will sell the tablet as a productivity tablet were in users could use it for web browsing, playing music, media consumption and casual gaming. The tablet will run a customized Android OS, the Fire OS 5 which highlights more on content and media consumption. The main feature of this is an e-book reader, a hardware to complement their own e-bookstore.
It is also rumored that the company created this line after the declining sales of their Kindle tablet which exclusively functions as an e-book reader. Instead of wasting their resources in initially putting up a hardware manufacturing, they decided to add more functionality in a form of a customized android tablet.
Amazon announced that the Fire HD 8 is available for preorders starting at $89.99 for the 16 GB and $119.99 for the 32 GB model and shipping will start by September 21. It comes in 4 colors: black, blue, pink, and orange.
