Electra Meccanica Vehicles Corporation, Vancouver recently unveiled the Three-wheeled Solo on Friday at British Columbia's Luxury and Supercar Weekend. The Electric-Powered Car won't look surprising to those who have been following Elio Motors' saga the past few years. The Solo could be in market as early as November as it is yet pending approval by U.S. and Canadian regulators. It will cost around $15,500.

Electra Meccanica spokesman Jeff Holland said,"Two hundred people have already done a refundable deposit of 250 Canadian dollars to get the Solo." Those who put deposits now may expect delivery after the first quarter of 2017. The company eventually hopes to take the Solo globally, states hybridcars.com.

Complete Specs:

  • Size: The Solo has a single seat for the driver. The space in the rear is about the size of a Costco-size shopping cart. Solo measures 10 feet in length, a little longer than the Smart 'Alio' For Two and can slip into parking spaces made for motorbikes.
  • Battery: The Solo has a 16.1 killowatt-hour AC synchronous electric motor that powers the single rear wheel, producing 149 pounds-feet of torque and 82 HP. That's good for a top speed of 80 mph (130 km/h) - enough to mingle with traffic on highways and freeways. Battery charge time is three hours using 240-volts and six hours for 120-volts.
  • Design: Its body construction is done by 57-year-old Intermeccanica, the Vancouver-based builder of bespoke, who has a reputation for exquisite workmanship, states a report on digitaltrends.com. The Solo has two front wheels and one rear wheel and about 14 inches longer than a Smart car. There's a plug hidden under its license plate for charging. The Solo also has some fancy features, like a digital instrument display, power windows and keyless entry. It will be available in red, black, silver and white.
  • Safety: The Solo has been classified as a car in Canada and as 'an autocycle' in 41 U.S. states, Holland stated. This means it does not require users to wear a helmet. Safety features include chrome-alloy tubes built into the side (crash protection), backup camera and aluminum crush zones in the front and rear. The Solo's body is made from the same strong and lightweight aluminum composite as that of the floor on Boeing 787.

Electra Meccanica expects the customers would be urban commuters who'd want an environmentally friendly vehicle. The U.S. and Canadian governments are currently certifying the vehicle and will let the company know if it will qualify for incentives, Holland said. Once the process is completed, the company plans to start stores and start delivering.

The Solo is to be sold at $19,888 in Canada, that is approximately $15,500 in U.S. dollars. Electra Meccanica also offers a bumper-to-bumper warranty package for two years and an eight-year long battery warranty, that is quite awesome.
