The Xbox 360 has always been a great platform for first-person shooting games including Call of Duty 3 and the other members of the COD franchise. Microsoft has now officially announced to expand the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility list, adding this classic Call of Duty 3 game in the next Xbox one update, allowing the Xbox one to play the classic Xbox 360 games.

Call of Duty 3 that is now available on Xbox One backwards compatible games was the first full game for the COD series developed by Treyarch. Anyone who owns the original Call of Duty 3 digitally on Xbox 360 can easily download the game, whereas those with a disc copy of the COD game need to insert it so as to start the download.

For the Xbox one updated console, whose backwards compatibility was not an inbuilt feature, any of the Xbox 360 games including the Call of Duty 3 of the COD series were not playable until Microsoft made the decision to include Call of Duty 3 on the list of backwards compatible games.

According to Attack of the Fanboy, the Xbox One originally lacked the backwards compatibility feature and many were unaware if they would ever be able to play their Xbox 360 games on Xbox One until last year when the new feature was announced and in due course implemented. Since then, the number of games in the Xbox one backward compatibility list has exploded to as many as 200 games and is currently still growing.

COD fans may have remembered Call of Duty 3 to be the last title for the franchise that was set during the time of World War II. It eventually gave way for a follow-up that was based on the modern era, starting with the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and its sequels.

Call of Duty 2 has also been added to the Xbox One Backward Compatibility List last month, which gives a feeling of nostalgia to the classic game lovers. However, according to a report on Eurogamer, Call of Duty 4 may not follow the same steps made for its ancestors, as the game is to have its own HD remake that will be made exclusively available for the to be owners of other games of the franchise including Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy, Legacy Pro, and its Digital Deluxe Editions.
