Samsung's new Gear S3 smartwatch is reportedly the first device from the tech giant which connects to higher-speed LTE networks. The Gear S2 successor will enable users to send text messages, track location, as well as stream music from Spotify without depending on the smartphone. The smartwatch will also support Samsung Pay, handwriting recognition, speedometer, an alti/barometer, SOS signaling and a built-in speaker for voice messaging.

The Samsung Gear S3 has been launched in three variants- Classic, Frontier, and Frontier LTE. It is to be noted that the Classic and Frontier Gear S3 models feature the same set of specs including 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display with 360 x 360 resolution, Tizen OS, Gorilla Glass SR+ screen protection, Samsung's Exynos 7270 dual 1GHz processor, 768MB RAM, 4GB of storage as well as built-in GPS, reported CNet.

The difference between the two is purely physical. The Classic model, which features a stainless steel body and rotating bezel, gives a luxury watch feel. While the Frontier Gear S3 variant sports a rugged exterior look. The Frontier LTE edition supports high-speed wireless Internet connectivity. The Frontier version weighs in at 62 grams and the Classic version at 57 grams.

Samsung claims that its Gear S3 smartwatch meets IP68 water resistance standards, and can thus survive in waters of 5 feet for nearly 30 minutes. As far as battery is concerned, the newly introduced wearables will feature 380mAh batteries which the maker claims will last up to four days on a single charge. Tech enthusiasts are speculating that Samsung Gear S3 will give a tough competition to Apple Watch Series 2.

Talking about Samsung Gear S3 price details, the price of the smartwatches are expected to start from $299.99, reported Inquirer. While Samsung hasn't yet announced an exact Gear S3 release date, rumors are that the smartwatches will be released on November 4, 2016.
