If you love to view the world through Snapchat-colored filters then there's good news for you. Snapchat is soon going to launch a new gadget in the form of its Camera equipped glasses, which has been named Snapchat spectacles. The wearable gadget is to be launched sometime later this fall. Will it be a challenge to Google glass? Well, we'll get to know soon enough.

The camera-equipped glasses also called Snapchat Spectacles, at present will have the ability to record about 10 seconds of video from the wearer's perspective by using a lens with an 115-degree angle, which almost resembles the human eye's field of view. A single tap on a button that's mounted on the upper edge of the left lens in the gadget will record yet another clip. Snapchat's CEO Evan Spiegel earlier told The Wall Street Journal that the Snapchat Spectacles will arrive on the market later this fall and might as well pose a challenge to Google Glass.

The Camera equipped glasses are reported to come in only a single size at present. The wearable gadget will be available on a limited basis and can be bought in any of the three colors comprising black, teal and coral. The cost for these Snapchat spectacles is told to be $129.99 (around £100, AU $170), while the cost for Google Glass is around $1,500.

"We'll take a slow approach in rolling them out," Spiegel said. "It's really about figuring out if it really fits into buyer's lives and to see how they like it." Snapchat, the Ephemeral media app does appear to be disappearing itself, reports techcrunch.com. The domain records and a video that was leaked previously suggest that the company will rebrand as Snap, Inc. along with the launch its first camera-equipped glasses called Snapchat Spectacles. The video that was earlier taken down by YouTube briefly showed the features of the Snapchat Spectacles. The camera-equipped glasses had big shades and an integrated camera above the left eye. Most of this was pretty clear from before when Snapchat bought the camera-equipped glasses manufacturing company Vergeance in 2014 for $15 million.

Although it's highly unlikely that the Snapchat app will be renamed as it would be brand suicide, Snap Inc. is most likely to be the governing company in this budding media platform comprising the camera-equipped glasses. On any random day, Snapchat App reaches almost 41 percent of all the 18- to 34-year-old population in the United States, states the company. That's a lot of people that could be sporting the new Snapchat spectacles. If people find these glasses fun, then there's a possibility that unlike the Google Glass, a lot of people would wear these camera-equipped glasses in the future.
