World Of Warcraft Latest Subscription Number: Truth Or Myth? Rumors, Details, and More From Blizzard Entertainment
Bizzard Entertainment issued a statement stating Tom Chilton had never provided any subscription number for World of Warcraft (WoW). Sources reported that in an interview with PIXEL, Polish magazine, Tom stated that World of Warcraft has over 10 million subscriptions now. They are aiming at a higher number and are competing with Overwatch team for the player base.
According to PC gamer, Bizzard further quoted that it was a sort of misunderstanding from the journalist of Polish magazine and it is a part of their policy that they don't talk about subscriber number. Hence, Tom will never speak about that.
Back in November 2015, Bizzard entertainment stopped publishing the subscriber number for World of Warcraft. It was further communicated that Bizzard believed that subscription base is not the only indicator to justify the business of World of Warcraft. Having said that, Tom Chilton did make a statement that worlds' greatest MMO returns with 10 Million subscriptions base, reported Blizzard watch.
Looking back at the history, in 2015 World of Warcraft was at 5.5 million subscribers base. 2015 subscribers base was nearly cut in half as compared to 2010 subscription base where the World of Warcraft was at its peak. It was back then in 2015 when Bizzard entertainment stopped reporting the subscription base number.
People are even speculating that with the release of Legion last month the subscription number might have increased. Apparently, Legion sold 3.3 million on the first day. Also, the Warcraft movie might have added to the increased subscription base.
As the matter of fact, Both Legion and Warcraft can't create a long-term interest for World of Warcraft. It can be a temporary increase in the number and might fall anytime soon if no further action will be taken on this. With the controversy of subscription base, World of Warcraft is again in talks. If the 10 million subscription base is correct then this might be a remarkable milestone for Bizzard entertainment's World of Warcraft.
