Microsoft Surface Phone Release Date Update, Latest News: 2016 October Release Cancelled? Don’t Expect Surface Phone Until Fall 2017
There is no doubt that tech enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for Microsoft to announce the Surface Phone release date, specs and pricing details. But, unfortunately, the software giant has chosen to remain tight lipped over the much anticipated phone.
While, some reports suggest that Microsoft's October 26 fall hardware event might see the Surface Phone getting unveiled alongside Microsoft Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2, there are others which claim that no new Microsoft Surface phones are coming this year. According to ZDNet, the tech giant's upcoming event will revolve mainly around Windows 10 software updates, Xbox related updates, Microsoft new Surface device, which is most probably an all-in-one PC, as well as OEM devices. Notably, it is also unlikely that the Redmond will refresh its existing Surface line of devices including Surface Pro 4, Microsoft Band 2 and the Surface Book laptop.

Going by the reports, one thing is for sure that there will no Microsoft Surface Phone announcement happening this year. However, there chances that the phone might get rolled out in late 2017 or early 2018.
Talking about Microsoft Surface Phone specs, the upcoming handset is expected to come with top notch features to compete with the likes of Apple iPhones and Samsung Galaxy smartphones. BetaNews reported that the Redmond has filed for "Fingerprint Detection with Transparent cover" patent with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The said patent is related to fingerprint sensor's placement on the device's display. So, it won't come as a surprise if the Surface phone comes with a fingerprint scanner fitted in its front glass.
Among other specs, the Microsoft Surface Phone is rumored to come in three variants, one with 3GB of RAM, the second with 6GB of RAM and the last one with a massive 8GB of RAM and 512GB of built-in storage. The handsets are expected to run either Intel Kaby Lake chipset or Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor or along with Windows 10 mobile OS. There will be a 5.7-inch AMOLED display, a 21-megapixel rear camera, Surface Pen functionality and USB Type-C connectivity on board.
