Photographer Allegedly Found Dead Mermaid On A UK Beach
Different nations and different cultures have their own version of the half-man, half-fish creatures that we come to know as mermaids. Mermaids, in short, are serious business, to the point of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration having an official page discussing the evidence of their existence.
While it might not come as a surprise that there had been no evidence ever of the existence of mermaids, IFL Science noted that widespread historical reports of these creatures have deemed them strange, especially considering that their popularity has remained intact up to this day.
However, the tides could turn, as new reports of a dead mermaid washed ashore on a UK beach put people in a frenzy. Photographer Paul Jones snapped and posted on Facebook photos of a partially decomposing "mermaid" on a beach in Great Yarmouth, UK. Many seem convinced of the sight; however, others tossed it out as an elaborate Halloween prank.
As Morning News USA pointed out, the figure's midsection was seen as disfigured, but its head and tail have been relatively intact - and the tail-like feature does somehow resemble a mermaid's tail as depicted in countless myths and bedtime stories. There have been speculations regarding the existence of these creatures, of course, with many convinced that it was of a decomposed seal, considering that the East Coast has a large colony of gray seals.
Still, the most likely answer seems far too simple: Many believe the body to be a model. According to Mirror UK, the photographer is a member of "Horror and Halloween DIY" Facebook group, and the nature of his works have always been considered creepy: with Halloween just a few days away, this stint could be an early shoutout for the holiday, because what's not to love about the possible evidence of elusive mythical creatures?
