Tesla motors have taken up the habit of making major changes without any official announcement. Earlier the EV manufacturer got rid of its car buyback program and raised prices for its Autopilot without any prior information. This time, Tesla has gone even further with the dumping of the cheapest Model X 60D from its lineup.

Earlier in July, Tesla introduced its low cost Model S 60 and Model X 60D, both of which had 75 kWh batteries. Teslarati now reports that while the Model S 60 will still be available, the Model X 60D won't be there anymore.

Marking the Extinction:

The Model X 60D had a starting price of $74,500 that isn't that much costly as the other Tesla models. The EV offered 200 miles range with the additional option to unlock 15 kWh of its battery capacity through an over-the-air software update for $9,500.

With the extinction of the 60D, the lowest-price Model X is now the 75D starting at $86,700. Other Model X prices range from $96,700 for the 90D to the $136,700 price for the P100D. According to Electrek, the Model X is a best seller in Norway, Netherlands and is also very much popular in mainland China.

Making Room For a New Model?

There are speculations regarding why Tesla drop its Model X 60D. According to a report on DigitalTrends, the signature falcon-wing doors, which did not work well, may be a reason for the discontinuation. However, other reports like that on Carbuzz suggest that Tesla might be making space for a new model.

Earlier, Musk had also claimed that Tesla would reveal a new model -called Model Y- following the launch of the Model 3. As the new vehicle could easily gain some profits, which Tesla desperately needs, this explains why the EV manufacturer kicked the Model X 60D.

What Else Did Tesla Remove?

Tesla also removed two colors options from its Online Design Studio yesterday, previously made available for Model S as well as Model X. The company also secretly took off the 1.25″ hitch accessory and Tesla's standard suspension. Tesla also replaced the coil spring suspension with the Smart Air Suspension.

It'd be interesting to see which new model Tesla has in its store for us. Well, as there's no official announcement made by the company yet, all we can do is wait.
