Wireless Apple CarPlay: Everything you should know

Harald Krüger, Chairman of BMW AG gave a brief description of this latest system being offered in the BMW 2017 Sedan. In a statement given earlier, He stated the new 2017 5 Series Sedan will definitely set new technological benchmarks, reports AutoBlog. Probably the integrated Apple CarPlay is a major reason behind this.

Apple CarPlay is connected to BMW's iDrive system. In the 5 Series, the system displays telephone, navigation, entertainment and other car function information on a central 10.25" touch-screen. Drivers can interact with it using voice commands, gestures, and direct taps on the screen or by using the iDrive Touch Controller. The CarPlay however, might take over a part or the entire screen when enabled.

Unlike the earlier versions, the new Apple CarPlay is completely wireless, which means that the users can take full advantage of the iOS 10 features without setting up a cable. Buyers can also add on other options such as a Wi-Fi hotspot or a Qi-based inductive phone charger. iPhone users can also buy the BMW wireless charging case, available for iPhone 5/5s as well as 6/6s models.

The Apple CarPlay was released back in 2014. The Verge reports that although Apple had prevented Volkswagen from using the feature back in January, the official website states that major car manufacturers are still partnering with CarPlay.
