A dolphin was freed from fishing line off the coast of La Jolla, San Diego on Friday morning, according to the Associated Press.

Around 10 a.m. a kayaker spotted the small dolphin entangled in fishing line one mile off the coast of Scripps Pier. Rescuers utilized a pole to grab the long fishing line, then cut it around the dolphin's dorsal fine.

"He was just a little guy and in peril, he was getting pretty tired," said lifeguard Marcus Schreiber, according to the French Tribune.

Life guards said that an expert used a long pole with a rope and hook to get the dolphin rid of the fishing line. It was difficult as the boat pilot Rick Stell had to carefully move close to the dolphin so as to enable us to cut the fishing line. Thanks to Keith Yip from SeaWorld, who is a wizard of disentanglement operations, perfectly performed the delicate operation by cutting the fishing line around dolphin's dorsal fins.

SeaWorld mammal curator Keith Yip told KFMB-TV the cuts on the fins indicated the line had been rubbing against the 4-feet-long dolphin for weeks. He said the dolphin appeared tired and was probably not able to feed.

Aerial view of the 3-foot dolphin showed it was swimming in an unusual pattern while it tried to rid itself of the line.
