Poor Sleeping Habits Can Affect Men's Fertility, Lesser Chance To Impregnate; Study Shows

The majority of women wants to get pregnant and have a baby. They have to  a lot of effort to achieve this goal, healthy diet, and proper condition are few of the samples for the women to be pregnant. Now, husbands and partners, as one of the key roles  for the women to get pregnant, better watch your sleep as a current research shows that lack of sleep affects men's fertility.

The new study suggests that little or too much amount of sleep influence the man's capability to impregnate his partner. Professor of epidemiology at Boston University School of Public Health study author Lauren Wise said that "the sweet spot appears to be 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night. Using 8 hours of sleep as the reference point, men who slept less than 6 or more than 9 hours a night had a 42 percent reduced probability of conception in any given month."

In the study of 790 couples who wants to conceive,  researchers found that men who tend to have  six hours less of sleep and more than nine hours of sleep can reduce the capability of pregnancy. They use 8 hours of sleep as a reference to get the result, according to Daily Mail

The couples were asked to answer a questionnaire regarding their sleep patterns and if they are experiencing trouble with sleeping. The researchers found that men who answered that they have a sleeping problem are less likely to impregnate their partners compared to those that does not have a sleeping problem.

To explain further, experts suggested that it is mostly hormonal. The testosterone is necessary for reproduction and it is released during sleep. They found that the total sleep time of men links to the production of testosterone.

In line, experts even try to filter both men and women's body mass index, ages, intercourse and other factors to affect fertility, the link between lack of sleep and men's fertility still shows. Wise added that "while the study found only an association between sleep and fertility, "it can't prove cause and effect."

However, the researchers said that the possibility of lack of sleep can result in an unhealthy lifestyle, a decrease in sexual intercourse and the decrease of libido. Thus, further research must be conducted, according to Health Day
