Mark Zuckerberg Breaks Silence On Peter Thiel, Donald Trump Controversy
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg might not be willing to move away from the Republican Party-supporter and Donald Trump's campaign-endorser, Peter Thiel.
A memo spread out among the employees at Facebook reported all the concerns related to the Facebook board member Peter Thiel's political involvement.
"We care deeply about diversity," Mark wrote in the memo. "That's easy to say when it means standing up for ideas you agree with. It's a lot harder when it means standing up for the rights of people with different viewpoints to say what they care about. That's even more important."
The internal memo passed among the employees by Zuckerberg spread through various news sources such as Hacker News and Boing Boing. The news was reported for a confirmation by a Facebook official.
Thiel has been supporting Republican president candidates in the past as well. And, now with support to current candidate, Donal Trump, there were some controversies. Thiel has been reported to donate $1.25 million to Trump's campaign.
Thiel has dedicated himself to Silicon Valley ever since he co-founded PayPal. He later co-founded another company named Palantir which is related to data analysis. Thiel has been considered one of the first investors outside of Facebook and has since contributed with Zuckerberg as one of the board members in the FB team. Moreover, his affiliation with high-end incubators like Y Combinator, has enabled him to be one of the top tycoons present today.
But, when Thiel showed his support for the Republican candidate, Trump, there has been a confusion in the industry which has been working to help with a racial discrimination free environemtn. A number of CEOs are actively participating with the campaign except Thiel. Even supporters for Hillary Clinton's campaign are readily participating, then why fuss over Thiel so much?
