Maserati Alfieri Update: Launch Date For Maserati Alfieri Postponed Beyond 2020

Maserati Alfieri has now tinkered with the launch dates for some of its new models in the pipeline.  Consequently, the GranCabrio 2+2 GT and Maserati GranTurismo got swapped with the 2 seater Alfieri sports car which is expected towards the end of the present decade.

Earlier, during the motor show in Geneva 2014, The Alfieri was expected to be launched in 2016 while the fate of Gran Turismo was unclear, as reported by Auto Car UK. However, Giulio Pastore, the GM at  Maserati Europe has now confirmed that GranCabrio and GranTurismo are important elements in the Maserati line-up. Consequently, the future of Grancabrio now looks assured.

Maserati Alfieri First Look

Maserati is yet to decide on styling and platform for the Alfieri, according to Pastore. The design decision may be coming in 2018 to aid the sales launch in 2020.

Meantime, Giovanni Ribotta, the design chief for Maserati's exterior added that it consumed about 22 months for Levante SUV to move into production after the plan was approved. The Alfieri concept , as well as the Ghibli, were also designed by Ribotta. He was also a member of the design team for the new Quattroporte, as reported by Car Buzz.

Ribotta added that Alfieri is pretty important for Maserati and that much of the details, shape, and the grille have influenced the Levante and Ghibli. Pastore, however, ruled out another compact SUV positioned below Levante to take on Range Rover Evoque and Porsche Macan. He added that other group companies and cars from their line up will address the compact SUV territory.

Maserati along with its suppliers have invested several years in developing luxury material for use in their cars and have evolved new techniques to manufacture these products to last the long lifespan of the vehicles. This is pretty much understandable, given the positioning of Maserati's cars in the global sports car markets.

Maserati is also launching the Levante along with Zegna at a customer event for about 40 potential owners at Harrods, London.
