In an attempt to attract photo fanatics, Kodak has launched its first photo-focused Ektra smartphone. Not only does the android smartphone has a unique and brilliant design, the huge camera at its back offers modes and features similar to those of a DSLR. The smartphone has been launched in Europe earlier for around €499.

The camera manufacturer has given a UK-based company called Bullitt Group, to manufacture the Kodak Ektra smartphone, reports NDTV Gadgets. Kodak Ektra Complete Specs/ Features:

Kodak probably plans to show the smartphone manufactures what it is like to steal other peoples' jobs. Sales of cameras have obviously gone down since camera became a part of the smartphones. Now Kodak with its Ektra smartphone has shown that it can make one as well and that too with a solid DSLR-like camera.

The Camera Part:

The android smartphone, Ektra features a huge 21-megapixel fast-focus rear camera. The rear sensor has f/2.0 aperture, OIS, PDAF, and also a dual-LED Flash. The 13-megapixel front camera comes with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF for taking selfies. The camera app additionally comes with several DSLR modes including Smart Auto, Portrait, Manual, Sports, HDR, Panorama, Bokeh, Night-time, Macro, Landscape, and a 4K Video Capture option.

The advanced Manual mode is also featured, allowing users to make adjustments to exposure, ISO, focal length, white balance, shutter speed, and even the aperture. Ektra smartphone comes pre-loaded with an app called Print, which lets you place the order for the physical copies of the photos you've taken. The Kodak smartphone also features a widget that supports several photo-editing apps including Prisma and Adobe Lightroom, however, the one that comes pre-installed is Snapseed.

The Smartphone Part:

The smartphone portion of the Kodak Ektra comprises a 5-inch 1080p display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a Mediatek Helio X-20 SoC, and a microSD card slot. The smartphone has a faux leather look along with an additional grip for taking photos or making videos comfortably.

Although Ektra smartphone's large rear camera sticks out of the smartphone body, a slight curve design at its bottom balances things out to make it look good. The lens additionally has a metal ring on it so as to protect it from wear and tear.

The Kodak Ektra is expected to be coming to the market late in December, for a no-contract price of about £450 ( $551). Future will tell if Kodak's marketing works when there are already so many good smartphones with amazing cameras.
