Samsung is already working on Galaxy S8 but the recent Note 7 crisis has affected Samsung very badly. The journey of Galaxy Note 7 was a roller coaster ride with Samsung experiencing enormous demand and building 5 million devices for its launch.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was well received by its fans until it started catching fire. Samsung recalled all its devices and decided to replace them. The crisis deepened for Samsung when its replacement phones started catching fire.
Samsung had no other options but to discontinue the Galaxy Note 7. Post the fiasco even loyal Samsung users have lost trust in the company. As a way to win back the users Samsung Galaxy S8 prices will be slashed for its existing users. According to a post in Korea Herald,
"In a desperate move to pacify its displeased Galaxy Note 7 users, Samsung Electronics is considering cash discounts for their future purchase of the upcoming Galaxy S8 or the next Note phone next year, industry source said on October 20."
Only 10 percent Note 7 users have returned the device yet. The prime reason is the limited compensation provided by Samsung. For instance, Galaxy Note 7 customers in Korea will get a complimentary voucher of 30,000 (26 USD) won and a one-time 70,000 credit on the monthly bill as reported in iDigital Times. These limited compensations have further irked the customers with some even threatening with lawsuits.
Samsung Galaxy S8 prices have not been announced yet. But according to latest news the S8 and Note 8 batteries would be supplied by LG. Samsung is considering increasing the number of its battery suppliers. The Samsung Galaxy S8 release date is speculated to be February 27 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Only time will tell if Samsung actually goes ahead with offering slashed prices for its Galaxy S8 and whether it even has any affect of the loyal customers.
