You might have seen small cars such as the Beetle being manufactured by Volkswagen, but now the German company is coming up with the largest SUV - the 2018 VW Atlas. This seven-seater beast might be the next big thing that could impress the American families.

2018 Atlas is a huge step by VW to bring bigger vehicles when the gasoline prices are cheaper. Many automotive industries are following this trend of manufacturing SUVs and so did Volkswagen. Notably, such sport utility vehicles are not at all cheap. And, this is what makes them bring in more profits from the customers.

Volkswagen step towards big-sized SUVs might be its savior from the broken image due to the diesel emissions scandal. It did spend billions of dollars for getting out of it and preparing a brand new vehicle for the audience.

2018 VW Atlas Is Big, But Not Big Enough:

Atlas will be a three-row SUV with 16.5 feet in length. The length surpasses the company's largest SUV, the Touareg. Still, it will be a midsized vehicle. And, the manufacturing plant that will handle the project is based in Chattanooga, Tenn.

According to VW's North American plant CEO, Hinrich Woebcken, the Volkswagen Atlas 2018 will be the boldest and biggest one ever to enter the U.S. market. It will deliver a unique design with commendable craftsmanship for which the German auto industry is famous. And, the best part is that, it will come with a room for seven people.

"The Atlas marks a brand new journey for Volkswagen to enter into the heart of the American market," he said.

2018 Atlas Engine Power:

The upcoming 2018 Volkswagen Atlas will feature a 2-liter turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine with direct injection to produce 238HP. Another variation for the sports utility vehicle will feature a 3.6-liter engine that will deliver a power output of 280HP. Both variants will come with an 8-speed transmission.

Safety Features:

New features that are to be added to the Atlas 2018 include a new brake system that will apply whenever an accident is detected in advance. The system, which is known as Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, will help reduce the hazards caused due to accidents.

Despite adding in a big SUV to its portfolio, Volkswagen still plans on concentrating on its EV line as well as bringing out vehicles with better fuel efficiency.
