The Mercedes S-Class has already set a benchmark amongst luxury vehicles since its reveal three years ago. Now with the reveal of the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class next year, the auto manufacturer is all set to take the limits higher. Along with a few changes in the design, the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will also spec new set of engines and modified electrical systems.
2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class: What's New?
In the last two decades, after having adopted the compact V6 engine, this is the first time that Mercedes has decided to bring back the six-cylinder engines in the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The new addition to the S-Class will feature a totally new set of engines. The 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine to be featured in the upcoming S-Class vehicle has already made its debut earlier with the Mercedes-AMG GT.

The 2017 S-Class will also feature the straight-six cylinder engine, which is expected to make its debut soon. The engine will generate an output of 400bhp to match the power of the 4.6-litre V8. The new engine also has lower emissions than the 3.0-litre V6 engine featured in the S400.
The electrical systems in the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will also be upgraded to 48 volts, making way for the new engines which will employ the new electrical system. The improved system aids other power ancillary functions of the engine's powertrain including the air-conditioning, water pump and a starter-cum-generator.

The regular set of the engine in the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is expected to be a 2.0-litre inline-four turbocharged petrol upgraded to a 48V system. The engine will produce a power output of 260bhp. The latest 2.0-litre diesel engine, which made its global debut in the new Mercedes E-Class, will also be featured in the 2017 S-Class. The 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel which is being used at present is expected to be replaced by a new inline-six cylinder turbo-diesel, developing 300bhp with ten percent lesser emissions.

The 2017 S-Class has some major changes in the exterior as well. The new model will have new tweaked bumpers and modified rear and front light designs. Although no official announcement has yet been made, the interior has also been modified with the latest technological advancements as well as added features for comfort.
The new chassis of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class also takes advantage of the lesser heat expansion rate of steel to reduce friction. Use of steel in the upcoming model clearly implies that the pistons will be lightweight and compact while being stronger than aluminium. Mercedes-Benz has already confirmed that the 3.0-litre inline-6, as well as 4.0-litre V8 petrol engines, will make their debut in the upcoming Mercedes S-Class facelifted model.
There has been no official announcement about the release date and the price also remains unknown. However, as the addition to the lineup is going to be a premium model, it's expected to come with a high price.
