National Margarita Day: Typical Drink Contains Two Ounces of Alcohol
Friday is the perfect day for a drink with friends. Even better, today celebrates a time when it's ok to actually get wasted. That's right, folks-it's National Margarita Day.
For the ladies, margaritas might be your favorite drink, and even for the dudes out there (don't be shy just because there's a little parasol floating in there) we know you love them, too.
So whether you're going out or staying in, one thing's for sure-these drinks are cheap to buy and easy to make. Margarita's are typically made with tequila. However, as there can be many brands, it can be tricky. Typical ones include blanco, reposado and añejo.
Depending on the mood you're in, you might want to scout out a different flavor. Blanco, typically referred to as silver tequila, is not aged at all, while reposado is aged in wood barrels for a minimum of two months but less than a year. Añejo has aged for at least four years in oak barriels.
Adding lime juice is essential to any Margarita. After that, it also might be nice to add some triple sec, an orange liqueur.
While we certainly want you to be enjoying yourself on this alky day, it's important to probably restrict yourself to just one or two of the drinks. Reports indicate that a typical margarita has 1.5 ounces of Tequila and 0.5 ounces of triple sec. Oh, and an ounce of lime juice, for approximately two ounces of alcohol.
Of course, everyone's Blood Alcohol Content level (BAC) will be different depending on weight and size, but if you're going to be wasted away again in Margaritaville tonight, just keep that in mind.
