Latest Facebook App Update Is Causing Some iPhones To Crash

Some iPhones are crashing after they have uploaded the latest Facebook app update. The update, released on October 20, is causing the smartphone to restart and freeze showing only the Apple logo. Reports and social media posts of users stated that the anomaly is happening while downloading the new version of the Facebook app and not while the app is being utilized.

After the iPhone freezes it is required to restore the phone from iTUnes before owners can use the device again. This can be done by plugging the device through a USB cable into a Mac or PC with ITunes and follow steps in restoration. While the fix is relatively easy and straightforward, the restoration could potentially result into a loss of pictures and other information from the iPhone if the user failed have a backup.

The news initially spread out after an Apple Store employee named Genius said that he had seen some abnormal number of users come in and report the same issue a week ago.  He then counter checked with five other Apple Stores who oversees such issues, and he surmised that the errors has all happened when owners are updating their Facebook app.

Several Apple support forum threads and numerous number of tweets have been dedicated towards the issue of the Facebook update. The error has been affecting iPhone SE and iPhone 6S users. A number of users who have been affected by the issue has verified that the issue can be alleviated through the iTunes restoration using Mac and or PC. Users has been able to get their iPhone 6S and other iPhones up and running by using the simple restoration process.

Meanwhile, both Apple and Facebook has not yet responded to any request and inquiry about any information regarding the said crash and freeze issue.
