Industry giant, AMD is set to showcase several of its newest processers and graphic cards at the New Horizon event next week, December 13. This includes the highly anticipated AMD Radeon RX 490 graphics card. WCCFTech had rated the AMD Radeon RX 490 with a score on par with some of the market's current leading graphics cards, including the unquestionably powerful and high end NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, the top GPU available in the market right now.

The rating was based on DX12 and DX11 tests using the game 'Ashes of The Singularity' mostly because of the game's full utilization of Asynchronous Compute. This new technology makes for faster graphic performances specifically for GPU's that run DirectX 12 modes.

These reports have largely been based off of credible speculation, with a codename 687F: C1 showing up on the number ratings for AOTS. The hardware under that codename is said to be undoubtedly AMD and the ID code resembles Radeon's Polaris codes; the data shows that the results of AMD Radeon RX 490 are by leaps and bounds superior to the performance of the direct predecessor to the model, the AMD Radeon RX 480.

The AMD Radeon RX 490 is set to have specs that support its reportedly high performance as a GPU. This includes 8GB HBM2 memory with basis on a PGU with 4096 shader processers. These specific processors run off the multiplication of sixty-four Compute Units with sixty-four processors for each cluster. Supposedly, the 490 is also set to be paired off with up to 16 GB HBM2 memory with a capacity of 512 GB/s memory bandwidth.

There is also reason to believe that the AMD Radeon RX 490 is set to run with a compute performance of 24 TFlops of half-precision and 12 TFlops of single-precision. As stated, these numbers stack up with NVIDIA's Geforce GTX 1080, the leader in high-end GPU performance.

AMD is expected to introduce this new product along with various others on December 13. Fans of Apple also have reason to rejoice seeing as there are talks of the company releasing PRO versions of the AMD Radeon RX 490 for the Mac and MacBook Pro.
