A Typo By Hillary Clinton's Aide Led To John Podesta's Email Hack By Russians
The present U.S elections saw a lot of drama and controversies from both sides. After results had been announced, several experts believe that the top reason for Clinton's loss was the publishing of John Podesta's hacked emails.
A recent report suggests that the hacking of Podesta's emails was due to a typo by one of Clinton's aide. Yes, you read it right, a typo! John Podesta had received an email that informed him that his email account was hacked and a third party had his password. He was advised by the phishing email to immediately change his password. John Podesta forwarded that email to a Clinton aide to verify the authenticity of the email, as reported by Business Insider.
Clinton's aide Charles Delavan who was part of the IT staff, replied that the email was "legitimate" and John Podesta should change the password "immediately" and set-up a two step verification. Now according to the reports by New York Times, Clinton aide, Delavan is claiming that it was a typo and he meant to reply "illegitimate" to John Podesta.
Clinton aide Delavan also claims that he meant for Podesta to change the email via Gmail and not the fraudulent email that he had received. The email that Podesta had received was a phishing email and ultimately led to hacking of his emails. The email revealed his password to hackers and led to leaks of over ten years of emails via WikiLeaks.
Intelligence agencies have blamed Russia for the hacking of John Podesta emails that led to Clinton's loss in the 2016 U.S elections. Some recent reports also suggest that Vladimir Putin was directly involved in directing the Clinton email leaks with the help of WikiLeaks.
At this point it is hard to believe that the error by Clinton's aide was a typo and he meant something entirely different. It is difficult to blame John Podesta for the leaks. But whatever the reason, Hillary Clinton paid the price for someone else mistake.
