The Nintendo Switch gaming console that is expected to be out in March 2017 will not be as powerful as the Sony PlayStation 4 or Xbox One according to some reports. Though Nintendo is said to share details of the upcoming Nintendo Switch Specs in January 2017, leaks around the industry have already started spilling the specs of the gaming console. Players expecting a portable switch that performs like a PS4 or Xbox One have a few issues to consider.

The Nintendo Switch leaked specs

The supposedly leaked specs by a Twitter account of NWPlayer123 has given out the following details on the switch. The switch will be powered by four ARM Cortex-A57 cores, maximum 2GHz with NVidia's second-generation Maxwell architecture. It comes with256 CUDA cores, maximum 1 GHz, 1024 FLOPS/cycle and 4GB RAM (25.6 GB/s, VRAM shared). The console offers 32 GB storage that allows maximum transfer speed of 400 MB/s. It is equipped with USB 2.0 & 3.0 ports and a 1280 x 720 6.2" IPS LCD display. The console will give an output video of 1080p resolution at 60 fps or 4k resolution at 30 fps maximum. It also features the Capacitance method offering 10-point multi-touch, as reported by Gamespot.

The Nintendo Switch offers lesser storage

From the features mentioned above, it is evident that the console shall have a 32 GB internal storage limit. Rumors suggest that the Switch cartridges will offer just 16 GB maximum at the initial release. This implies that players will not be able to store more than two large games in the long run. However, the 400 MB/s fast transfer rate, is something great! Players need not wait load times while playing the content locally.

The Switch Will Not Feature Latest Pascal Design

Another major issue that is seen in the Nintendo Switch leaked specs is the GPU power. Players have been eagerly waiting for the hybrid console to perform better than PS4 and Xbox One. They expected a more cutting-edge Pascal design instead of the Maxwell architecture which will make it a weaker console, as reported by Venturebeat.

The Console Will Under-Perform Than Its Competitors in the Market

The custom Maxwell Tegraindicates that the gaming console will perform over one teraflop, however, lesser than Project Scorpio that offers six teraflops, the PS4 Pro at 4.2 teraflops, the standard PS4 at 1.8 teraflops, and the standard Xbox One delivering 1.3 teraflops. It looks like Nintendo is not ready to make any further delay waiting for the Pascal version Tegra processor.  However, Jon Peddie of Jon Peddie Market Research has expressed to Venture Beat that the low-performance of the switch will not be an issue.

However players can wait as Nintendo has promised to share the Switch's specs, launch date and price details point at the January 2017 event. Stay tuned to SWR for further updates.
