'For Honor' Review: No Offline Option Even For Single Player Option, Split-Screen Retracted Too?
Ubisoft announced that its medieval melee war game For Honor requires an uninterrupted Internet connection even in the single-player game mode.Ubisoft walks back on another promised option of For Honor after removing the offline gameplay option for not only multi-player mode but also for single-player mode.
Single Player Mode also Requires "Always Online" Facility
The game maker revealed that the story mode for For Honor single player mode also requires non-stop Internet connectivity for the game to function. This sudden confirmation comes at a time when the game is all set for a global launch in next few weeks. The news also completely controverts Steam and Uplay listings of offline mode campaign for the game, as reported by VG247.
Ubisoft Retracts Promised Key Features
Ubisoft's withdrawal of various promised options in the game also include removal of a split-screen multiplayer mode that was boasted as one of the "key features" by the game publisher. The retraction of the split-screen multiplayer mode can be blamed on the lack of development time. The reasoning for the offline mode denial is still not convincing enough, as reported by Gamerant.
Contrast news with the offline mode advertisements
Noticing a contrast between For Honor's offline mode advertisement campaigns and the pre-release box art that gave out the recent persistent Internet connection requirement, the NeoGAF gaming forum got in touch withUbisoft for an explanation. The game publisher confirmed the retraction of the offline mode feature. The statement read that the company confirmed that the game is an "always online experience."
For Honor will get an official release post the global launch for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 consoles, and PCs on February 14, 2017. It looks like For Honor players are going to be too upset after the sudden turn of events.
