Live Bomb in Squid: Creature in Guandong found with Ticking Time Bomb Inside Body
We all know that buying meat of any kind into todays world is a risky business. Hormones used to quickly produce gigantic cows, chickens or pigs that are ready to slaughter can create unnecessary health hazards when eaten. However, at a market in Guandong, China, one squid found with a growing alarm inside might just kill you.
Reports from the Telegraph confirmed that a fisherman identified as Mr. Huang immediately called authorities after opening a three-food long squid to find a three-pound, eggplant-shaped bomb inside.
"This sort of squid lives close to the shore and normally makes a meal of small fish and prawns," the fishmonger, identified only as Mr. Huang, told his local paper Guangzhou Daily.
"Perhaps he thought the bomb was his favorite food and gulped it down. He certainly had a big belly when he was caught."
Police suspected a fighter jet might have dropped the bomb, though they didn't say when.
It is yet unclear how the bomb found its way inside the squid, although police said it may have been dropped by a fighter plane and washed into the squid's feeding ground. They would not reveal how old it was or whether it was of Chinese origin.
We're certainly glad someone found out in time.
But we have to wonder what the bomb was doing inside the squid's body in the first place. Did he simply eat it? Was it craving explosive devices? Or was it implanted? We may never know.
