Sea Lion Wanders from Beach to Settle Cosily Along Poolside at California Hotel
Women love to live in the lap of luxury. It looks like even a little malnourished sea lion pup longed for the same. The female sea lion pup created a stir as it waddled its way from a California beach into a nearby luxury hotel, where it settled cozily along the poolside, inclining itself at the patio bar.
It was spotted during the early hours of Tuesday at 6:45 a.m. by the overnight front desk worker at Pantai Inn, an all suite hotel in La Jolla, California, reports ABC News. The pup was seen sleeping on a chair placed in the courtyard.
The worker immediately intimated the hotel manager Shane Pappas.
"I received an email while I was getting ready for work stating that we had a baby sea lion in our courtyard," Pappas was quoted as saying in ABC News. "I called and said, 'What are you talking about?'"
With the help of surveillance cameras, it was confirmed that the sea lion pup, weighing 27.5 pounds, had waddled her way up. Hotel authorities were astonished because the hotel was based across the street from the nearby beach. And for the sea lion pup to reach the hotel, it definitely had to have crossed the street.
Officials from SeaWorld, a rescue team based in San Diego, were called to rescue the sea lion pup. She was put into a large net and towed in a truck.
"We are not sure exactly what route it took to get to the hotel," SeaWorld spokeswoman Terry Kelly told AFP. They also confirm that the dehydrated creature "is now on the mend" at SeaWorld's Animal Care Complex. She is being fed through tube and is kept on rehydration fluids.
They plan to release the young sea lion pup into the wild after six days of monitoring.
