Poisoned Bread: Rat Poison Found in Loaves Left on Company's Doorstep in Germany, 25 Workers Consumed Food
These days, you just can't trust people.
Some unsuspecting Germans were hit with poisonous bread loaves that were left on their company's doorstep and marked as a "present." And to make matters worse, reports indicate these slices actually had traces of rat poison in them!
Police in nearby Cloppenburg stated that roughly 25 workers at the plastics company located in Steinfeld, Lower Saxony, had indulged in the bread filled rolls, according to CNN.
Later in the afternoon, police said, according to a statement, that a weird substance was noticed sifting to the top of the food, upon which the dangerous substance was transported to a hospital in Berlin and was tested positive for rat poison.
This realization resulted in the admittance of 11 to the hospital for fear they would become sick or potentially die from eating the tainted dough. The victims are currently being closely monitored by medical staff, but it's unclear how long it will take for the poison to potentially set in.
Fortunately, no one has shown any symptoms so far.
"We don't believe the amount of poison used would have been deadly, but it could have caused serious illness," said Frank Soika, a police spokesman, according to the Associated Press.
The identity of the person behind the incident, as well as the motive, still remains unclear at this time. The potency of the poison is also still unknown at this time, according to police reports.
