One of the latest beauty crazes becoming popular among British women is 'tittooing': a procedure of getting the nipples tattooed in order to achieve the perfect size and color.

Liverpool women have gone one step ahead in grooming themselves with semi-permanent nipple tattoos in order to make their nipples look dark and well-defined.

Nipple tattooing, otherwise known as tittooing, was invented to make reconstructed breasts look more realistic. It can last for a lifetime with regular top-ups. British women land up spending close to $1,800 for a nipple tattooing procedure to have dark and well-shaped nipples, reports The Telegraph.

Gali Proudman, an independent clinician from Merseyside who performs the nipple tattooing procedure on more than three women a week, says she has witnessed a great increase in the number women who are following this new cosmetic trend.

"A lot of people want their nipples made darker. It's the fashion. Some people think theirs are too pink or their boyfriends want them done. I think sometime they are doing it because they are conscious of them being pale and they think it's fashionable to have dark nipples. They'll look at the magazines and page 3 and unfortunately a lot of it might be peer pressure," says Proudman.

Most women who have undergone mastectomies prefer this minor procedure. The patient is given a local anesthesia and the nipple color is blended with medical micropigments that go well with the women's skin color, reports Daily Mail.

Graham Offer, from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, cautions women on the importance of getting it done from an experienced medical tattooist. Apart from this, he insists that women should think about the future, as the nipple areola complex undergoes certain changes with pregnancy.
