Rafe Biggs, 43, of Oakland, California, has been paralyzed from the chest down for nine years ever since he broke his neck after a fall from a roof. He also contorted his spine.

The incident, which occurred in India, made him a quadriplegic with no use of all four limbs. Since then, he wondered if he could experience sexual pleasure again.

A year after the accident, Biggs noticed that he had an orgasm-like feeling as his girlfriend gently massaged his thumb. Since then, his thumb has been his surrogate penis since he gets an orgasmic sensation every time the thumb is stimulated. With this, the chronic pain he generally suffers from vanishes.

According to sex therapist Skye Carle, this is what is called a transfer orgasm.  This is where you receive the same sensation on another place on the body. The orgasm occurs in the brain and not in the body, reports Counsel & Heal.

In an interview with Huffington Post UK, Biggs said, "A lot of people have this idea that those with a disability aren't interested in sex or can't have sex. It's not true. I'm trying to change that perception and generally support people, whatever their disability, to create intimate, loving relationships."

After this incident, Biggs has founded an organization called Sexability, in which he helps people with several disabilities to explore sexuality and help them build intimate loving relationships. It was started in 2006. Apart from this, he has been counseling people and conducting group teachings in sexuality and disability.
